Oak Island EP Review

Hello guys! So, today, I'm reviewing Our Last Night's EP Oak Island.
Our Last Night is a post-harcore band from New Hampshire, US. The band is currently formed by: Trevor Wentworth (screamer, vocalist), Matt Wentworth (vocalist, guitarist), Alex "Woody" Woodrow (bassist) and Tim Molloy (drummer).
The EP contains 7 songs: Dark Storms, I've Never Felt This Way, Same Old War, Reality Without You, Sunrise, Scared Of Change and Oak Island. And, the length of the album is 26 minutes 30 seconds. All songs were written and composed by Matt Wentworth, except: Sunrise (Matt & Trevor W.), Scared Of Change (Matt & Trevor W., Tim M.) and Oak Island (Matt & Trevor W., Tim M.). The album was released without a label, and produced by Matt Wentworth. It was released the 5th November 2013, and the styles of the album are alternative rock and post-hardcore. Now that I'm done with the "technical details", it's time for the actual review.
The EP is pretty different than the any other music Our Last Night has ever released before, but it still fits the kind of music they usually do! Although it contains more clean vocals than usually, and there are just a few songs with screaming on them, the EP is awesome!
Track by track:
- Dark Storms: a great track to start the album with, which is a mix of the "quieter" sound of Our Last Night that could be found in the album Age Of Ignorance, but with a great screaming part too. Also the song has a great instrumental and lyrics about what you do in life and that stuff. The song makes you think. Especially I want to stand out one of my favorite quotes from the song: "you can only get so far with no one by your side". I believe that there's so much truth behind that, because, when you truly want to do something, you have to do it alone if you want it to work. And, the intro of the song is amazing too: "whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it's very important that you do it, coz, nobody else will".
- I've Never Felt This Way: the second track of the album keeps with a heavy sound that comes closer to the sound of the band at their beginning. It contains more screaming than the previous track, and the instrumental is amazing as well! The lyrics are great too, and talk about getting away from a relationship and feeling finally free after that.
- Same Old War: this track is softer than the other two. Anyway it still has a great instrumental, and the genre of the song is still rock. It doesn't contain screaming. And the lyrics are really deep. I prefer the lyrics of this song rather than the other two. The song is whether about fighting against life itself and its obstacles, or fighting against the past. With a great message in it: "stay strong, keep moving. Can't let the darkness blind us".
- Reality Without You: this track kind of follows the style of Same Old War according to instrumental. It's not very heavy, but it's not soft either. Great instrumental, and great lyrics too. The lyrics talk about a love relationship in which you get lied and had never expected that.
- Sunrise: this is definitely my favorite track from the album, and my favorite song of Our Last Night, and my favorite song at the moment too. I have an especial love for this song, and I want to write another post just about the song, so I'll just talk "a bit" of it. The song is about bullying, and gives a message of hope in the whole song. I think that other message I get from it is "you're not alone", even though they don't say those words exactly, it feels like that. It's the quietest song from the album, in some parts it could be considered a ballad I think. The lyrics and instrumental are great though.
- Scared Of Change: in this track the band comes back again to a heavier sound, which screams and heavy parts. It's got a great instrumental, and the lyrics, as the title shows, are about being scared of change. We all are in some way, any change is scary, but, as the band says: "I'll be okay". Change might seem hard, but it ends up being all okay. And, life changes, but if you want to, you can choose to stay being the same.
- Oak Island: the last track of the album has a style similar to the one in Scared Of Change. It's got great instrumental and lyrics too. The lyrics are about uncertainly in my opinion. But with this track I'm not really sure about the meaning anyway.
So, this is my review of Oak Island EP by Our Last Night! The entire track by track is just my interpretation of the songs from the EP, and my opinion. I really hope you liked it :) Let me know your opinion below in the comment! I would love it if I could get Our Last Night to read it, so if you can, share this, thank you! I'm sorry if it was way too long and boring... And below you can listen to a full stream of the EP:

Janick Thibault's Birthday!

Hello there guys! What's up? Today, 15th August, it's Janick Thibault's 20th birthday! So, I decided that this was an awesome oportunity not to just post pictures of him, but also to talk about him! If you don't know who he is, he's the lead singer and guitarist of the pop-punk band Amasic. I've talked about them a lot of times in this blog though. Janick Thibault started a YouTube channel, which user was: greenday3840. He started posting guitar covers and full covers of songs of artists like Green Day, Linkin Park... Later, he also started to post original songs in his channel. In those songs, he would play all instruments and sing. The first original song he wrote was called: "You". He released a few albums in iTunes later with the name of "Amasic", as a one-man band. The albums were called "Injustice" and "What Will It Take". Also he released an EP: "Breaking Apart" and singles, and more covers. He was getting more famous as time went by, and getting more and more views in his channel. He appeared a few times on T.V. and even won a contest on T.V.! He formed a band with Jessy Bergy, Mehdi Zidani and Matt McCormack, which still had the name "Amasic".
Well, for me, Janick is a great musician, but not just because he sings great and plays the guitar great too. Since he started writing original music, the lyrics he has written have always been unique. Nowadays, it's hard to find good lyrics, with deep meanings, and the lyrics Janick has written have always been whether deep or meaningful, you know, the kind of lyrics that you can relate to and that touch your heart. Also that are about some things like this society, or people, or life basically. You can find a great variety in the songs written by him. He's an amazing artist, but also an amazing person who really appreciate his fans and also cares about them. I'm sure that he and his band will go really far and will become bigger and bigger! Below I'm posting a video of one of his firsts songs and pictures of him:

"I'm sorry I disappointed you"

Hey there guys! How are you all doing? I hope you all are doing well :) This post is going to be "deep" again. I apologize if you're not here looking for deep posts and all you want to read about is music. But I felt the need to write about what I'm going to write about.
"I'm sorry I disappointed you", I've heard/read that phrase before. A lot of times actually. Don't people say that when they harm themselves? Yeah, some people have told me that recently. All were in ask.fm specifically. They told me that because they had harmed themselves, and I have told on twitter that I don't want people to harm themselves. I'm not going to be mad at someone if they harm themselves, even if I actually know them. Why not? Because I understand that self harm is an addiction, and it's not always easy not to do it. Actually sometimes it's really hard not to do it. You don't disappoint me when you harm yourself, I have to admit I feel sad when someone harms themselves, but not because I feel disappointed. I feel sad because nobody deserves that, and I felt like I could have helped more that person.
I'm against self harm, I actually am. But, do you know why I tell people not to self harm? There are a lot of reasons and it could end up being really annoying, so I will just mention a few ones; five reasons.
1. You're not really getting anything good from that, although you think you do.
2. You think you're the only one who's getting hurt when you self harm, but a lot of people hurt too when you harm yourself.
3. By hurting yourself, you're inconsciently telling yourself you deserve whatever you're going through, when you DEFINITELY don't.
4. As you keep doing it, you get more addicted to it.
5. You're better than that shit.
But also there's a reason why I try to stop people from doing that, there's one which is personal and I don't think I'll ever tell it here, or maybe I will, I don't know. But there's a reason I can actually tell here, and now. I try to talk people out of it, because I don't want anybody to do that to themselves, I wish that nobody ever felt that bad that they harmed themselves. Because, I'm sure that nobody deserves to go through that, and that means that if you're reading this, I don't care who you are or what you've done, and you self harm, you don't deserve it at all. I hate that there's people who treat you that bad that you end up believing you deserve it, but you don't.
So, if you ever harm yourself, there's not need to tell me you're sorry. Because, you didn't disappoint me, but I'd love it if you messaged me before doing it, so at least I can try to change your mind.
I've said it a lot of times, but I'll say it again, I don't really care if I'm being annoying by telling it. If you need someone to talk to, for any reason, I'm ALWAYS here to listen. I'll always answer any message as soon as possible. You can contact me here:

"Other people have it worse"

Hey there guys! It's been a long time since I last talked about "deep" stuff on here, so I guess it's time to do so. What I decided to talk about something I'm sure you've been told in your life: "other people have it worse".
Do you ever start talking to someone about any problem you're having in the moment, and that person tells you: "other people have it worse"? The problem about when people tell you that, is that you start thinking that your problems are never important, you start to think that you're just overreacting. Because of that you keep your problems to yourself because you think they're not important, when they're killing you inside.
I'll never forget something that a great friend of mine told me one day when I was feeling down: "saying you can't be sad because other people have it worse is like saying you can't be happy because other people have it easier". I don't know if those were the exact words, but the concept was the same. And, it really made me think. She was absolutely right. Because, yes, other people have it worse, but, how does that mean you aren't allowed to feel pain?
Therefore, you can feel bad, you can have a bad day and because of that feel like shit. We're human, we have feelings, and something can happen that it hurts those feelings, and just because other people have it "worse" doesn't mean that our problems don't matter. Saying someone has it worse won't make the person stop being upset or start being happy, no, it doesn't work like that.
I will turn to a quote from a writer that I think is awesome, Stephen Chbosky, from his book "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (a really good one, if you like reading, you should give it a try):
"I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have"
We all have problems, and you're in your right of feeling bad because of them, and hurt, and feel hopeless. Because, that's what life is like. You go through shit, and get through it. Don't you think so? Let me know what you think about what I say, and, I hope you liked the post!

"Beneath The Skin"

Well, hey there guys! Today, I wanted to write a post, and, I didn't know about what I could do it. But, suddenly I was on Facebook when I found out that about Some hours ago the metalcore band Memphis May Fire had released a music video for their song "Beneath The Skin", from their last album. And, isn't it a good thing to talk about? Personally, it's my favorite song from the album (Inconditonal), and one of my favorite ones of all their songs, so I was really happy when I found out that they made a video. And, in my opinion, the video completely fits with the song.
I guess the song and the video are really something that, it's a must to talk about. Because both of them reflect something that is real, and sadly, happens. It talks about self-harm, but, more important than that, it talks about how someone feels to do that. It's sad, I honestly wish that no one ever felt like that. The song has a really accurate point. "Is our generation too blind to see true beauty lies beneath the skin?"; this quote says it all. I really don't get it. Why people don't notice anything? I don't know, but, there are things that I don't understand how can people just not see them. Maybe I shouldn't be saying what I'm saying because probably there are a lot of things I don't notice in the people around me. But, I actually notice a lot of things in people around me, but I don't usually say everything I see and notice though. Whatever, I personally think that there are a lot of things people should notice, but, the problem is that, usually when people notice things like that is because they know about it. And there are things that is better not to know about...
By the way, there are other quotes of the lyrics of the song that I love. "Are they too cold, too numb to see the lifelong effects of the pain they inflict?", this quote explains something I really think, and had thought about it before listening to the song, but I was glad I'm not the only one that thinks like that. When someone says something to other person, don't they think about how a word, just a word, can stay in someone's mind forever? Some people think it's senseless or stupid, but no, it's not! I still remember words that people have told me years ago, and especially the bad ones, to be honest. It makes me think, it makes me wonder if, when someone says something bad to a person, they think how that word can affect the person in the future. I want to think that people don't realize that, because, if they did, the world would be more fucked up than I thought. And I really think it's fucked up, so...
I could spend hours writing more about the song, but I think that that would be really annoying, so this is it.
And, to everyone who self-harms out there, I want you to know something. You're strong; stronger than you think and stronger than you can even imagine. You'll get through this. Things are hard now, but it won't be like this, it gets better. Stay strong <3
Well, this is what happens when I'm listening to a deep song and it's late at night, I hope you liked this post. Let me know what you think of it and this blog in general, it means a lot!
Below you can watch the video of the song by the way:

5 Seconds Of Summer Album Review

Hey there guys! Well, today, in twitter, I asked which album review you prefered, between 5 Seconds Of Summer (by 5 Seconds Of Summer), or Oak Island (by Our Last Night). Since 5 Seconds Of Summer was the winner, I am going to do the review of that album. I will write a review of Oak Island other day too, don't worry about that if you wanted a review of Oak Island.
The album 5 Seconds Of Summer is the first full lenght album of the Australian pop punk/pop rock band. I'm going to talk a little bit about the band before I talk about the album.
The band was formed in 2011 by Luke Hemmings (lead vocalist and guitarist), Calum Hood (vocalist and bassist) and Michael Clifford (vocalist and guitarist). Later, Ashton Irwin (drummer and background vocalist) joined the band, completing it. They have released several EPs, like Somewhere New, She Looks So Perfect, and Don't Stop.
Now, the album. It was released the 27th June of 2014. The album consists in 12 songs (normal version), in which you can find a variety in music styles. The album goes from songs with a pop punk sound, like Don't Stop, End Up Here, Good Girls, Kiss Me Kiss Me and 18; to songs which are closer to a pop sound, like Everything I Didn't Say and Beside You; with also an acoustic sound, in Amnesia. Before I continue reviewing the album, I wanted to leave something clear. I myself consider 5 Seconds Of Summer a pop punk band, although a lot of you might not agree with me, but, yeah, they're not rock or punk rock, but they are pop punk, you can tell it in a lot of their songs.
The lyrics of the album are about love mostly, in exception of songs like Social Casualty (which is in the deluxe version of the album), which lyrics are about society and those things...
Also I find it necessary to add that 5 Seconds Of Summer worked with Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low in the album; Alex helped on the writting of the song Kiss Me Kiss Me.
The album is a pretty good one, in my opinion. My favorite songs from it are Everything I Didn't Say and Amnesia; for me, the meaning of both of them are the ones that touch my heart the most in the album. That doesn't mean I don't like the rest, I like all the songs. I find them cool. I think that you should give it a listen if you haven't, you'll like it ;)
Below I'm posting the official music video of the second single of the album Don't Stop, and an edit I made of a quote from the song Amnesia:

And, I hope you all liked the review of the album! Also, I want to thank to everyone who reads this blog, you're awesome :)

"Amnesia"

Hello there guys! Today, the pop-punk/pop rock band from Australia, 5 Seconds Of Summer released the official video for their latest single "Amnesia". Have you already watched it? If so, what do you think of it? Personally, I found it fitting to the song, I liked it so much, specially the beginning when Ashton (the drummer) was coming with a bike to go with the rest of the guys from 5SOS, because, according to the band, that's kind of like how Ashton joined the band, so it's pretty emotional to see it that way.
By the way, if you haven't seen the video, I'm posting it below so you can watch it, and tell me what you think:
